yesterdaybells asked: Your lack of intellectual humility concerning the topic of science vs. religion bothers me. The existence of a God or gods does not necessarily preclude the existence of scientific phenomena and visa versa
Of course. If there is a god, then said god does not in any way interfere with reality and has not interfered with reality since reality existed (t=0 at the Big Bang). Everything that happens is explained by something that isn’t God, so it’s perfectly rational to say that God does not exist. God doesn’t exist because he isn’t necessary for the universe to operate as it does. What’s the rationale that a god does exist? “God exists because I believe he does.”? Because the [insert holy book] says he/they does/do? I’m not so convinced.
It’s not my opinion that gods do not exist, it’s a conclusion I’ve come to after considering all available evidence and options; I’d say it’s more of an educated opinion. People are welcome to believe in a god, by all means, religion is a powerful thing. I went to Catholic school for 8 years, I get it. But if your belief in a god is challenged by science, that’s your problem and not mine.
